We came to a dead end for our Dr Seuss books in early summer. I could not find any more of them available around here (I do the library not buy). I found a few that we watched online as someone else read them but it wasn't any fun. Someday I hope we do come across the remaining few.
Wednesdays are our library days. We go hang out with some friends and pick out books for the next week. And as Curious George has become a new love around here I decided to pick up all the books on the shelf. Baby flips through them and loves looking at what that bad little monkey is doing (yes, he sometimes can be bad!). I got me thinking as I looked at Curious George Goes to the Beach that are a few different varieties of George books. And...
Meet our newest challenge:
Read all of the Curious George books!
There are 9 original Curious George books by Margaret and H.A. Rey:
Cecily G and the 9 Monkeys (When George is first introduced)
Curious George
Curious George Takes a Job
Curious George Rides a Bike
Curious George Gets a Medal
Curious George Flies A Kite
Curious George Learns the Alphabet
Curious George Goes to the Hospital
After H.A. Rey died in 1977, Margaret continued to write stories with Alan Shalleck (they are mostly out of print now but some are being re-released).
Curious George and the Dinosaur
Curious George Goes to the Aquarium
Curious George Goes to the Dentist
Curious George Bakes a Cake
Curious George Goes to a Toy Store
Curious George Goes to School
Curious George Visits an Amusement Park
Curious George at the Railroad Station
Curious George Visits a Police Station
Curious George Goes Hiking
Curious George Goes to the Circus
Curious George at the Beach
Curious George Goes to a Restaurant
Curious George at the Fire Station
Curious George Plays Ball
Curious George Airport
Curious George at the Ballet
Curious George Walks the Pets
Curious George Goes Sledding
Then there is a whole list of other books written by Margart Rey about Curious George. Plus another list of books based on his movies and TV show (we will not include this since the list is never ending!).
Check out our progress as we take on this new challenge!

Baby's First Birthday Party
I know this has not much to with books (although we have quite a few of his books and read them frequently! Maybe I should start a list since we got through all the Dr. Seuss ones we could...). But I had to share our newest love...
Who else but Curious George?
Who else but Curious George?
We love him here. Baby claps uncontrollably and dancing like a maniac when the music starts. So what else should be the theme?
We had a great day even though it was overcast and the hurricane was coming up the coast. (How fitting since she was born during Lee last year!). But even with the impending rain we had a wonderful time! Almost all her friends she hangs out with came and played on the playground. Both sets of Grandparents made it.
We Love You Monkey May you always be curious. |

Book Review:: God Gave Us You
I really thought we had this book already but after I read the other book (God Gave Us Love) by Lisa Tawn Bergren I went to find it to read to baby. WE DIDN'T HAVE IT!So I went to WaterBrook Multnomah and requested it for our next review book. I couldn't just read one and not the other. I am so incredibly glad I did. This is one you want on the nursery library shelf or in the box of toddler books. It is really cute!!
Little Cub has many questions (what little kid doesn't?) for her Mama while getting ready for bed one night. Little Cub poses the question that is sometimes dreaded by many a parent: "Where did I come from?" Yes, that question that can stop parents dead in their tracks, especially coming at such a young age. But Mama does a beautiful job explaining it. Mama Bear answers with "God gave us you". She progresses through wanting Little Cub all the way through birth answering Little Cub's numerous questions about why, what happened, how.
This is soooo cute. I can't get over how cute this book is. I love it. LOVE IT. Mama Bear's answer is wonderful. Baby needs to know how much she is loved and that she did come from God. Baby is a blessing from God. Bergren explains the age old question in such a great way for children to understand. (And if you read your child the book it can get you off the hook of answering such a loaded question if you're uncomfortable!) It also lets Baby know God is the Almighty Creator. That's where we all come from. Once again I can't tell you know much I LOVE LOVE this book.
The two are a great combination to put on your bookshelf or give as shower gifts, birthday or Christmas gifts. Check out both of them below.
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah for this review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Book Review:: God Gave Us Love
This is a cute little story about a cub and her grandfather talking about various forms of love and why we love. They were fishing and otters kept jumping scaring their fish away. Cub got mad, as would any kid really. Grandpa explained that she must have love for the otters even when she doesn't want to because God is love. They go through different situations in which a person should love others, love God and trust God. Grandpa answers the age old children's question about the kissy love of Mama and Dada too.
Although I thought this book was pretty cute it says it was written for children ages 0-3 years. I'm not so sure it was broken down into good enough language for that age. And some of the other concepts it tries to teach a bit other whelming for his age But it holds truth that adults sometimes need help with!! It's definitely worth reading to children at some point to reinforce loving others, just not to under age 3 like its meant for.

Stinky Face
This is such a cute little book that Grandma gave Baby for Easter.
Baby likes and so do I.
A mother will love their baby no matter they look like. It just so happens my baby is so cute it's hard not to anyway. :-P

Because a Little Bug Went Ka-choo
Dr. Seuss, or Theodore Geisel, or Theo LeSeig, did write this book but under the name Rosetta Stone. It's crazy all the things you can learn about an author when you set out to read all their books!
I couldn't find this book anywhere. I did find a video on youtube someone made for their class of the book. So we watched it instead of reading it.
Here's the link.

Book Review:"I Love You to God and Back"
If you have a little girl (or, I guess, children. Doesn't have to be a little girl) you'll be able to relate to author Amanda Lamb's journey through prayers with her daughter. The lessons learned from a little girl (or child, really) can be so profound. If you don't look and listen, you'll miss it.
Lamb transcribes a years worth of her daughter's prayers. Chloe is incredibly thankful and will thank God for the most minute detail of her day. She thanks God for some of the funniest things but she is so sincere and truly thankful. Lamb does a beautiful job taking the prayers and applying them to her life and yours, the reader, as well. For example, one of the first prayers she recorded was about thanking God for an extra nugget in her meal. Lamb comments on this tidbit by questioning the reader about how busy we/they are that the daily bread is being missed. Simple things, like an extra nugget or washing a car, are being missed, taken for granted.
Lamb also includes some funny comments by Chloe herself. It's amazing how smart this little girl is! The comments are quite humorous but also thought provoking and incredibly true.
Even though this wasn't what I was expecting, I still laughed throughout most of this book. I mean laughed out loud. But also reflected on how I'm missing God's small blessings. Of course I thank Him for the big stuff, the blessings that are hard to miss even when the day flies by with a million things to do. But after reading this book I try very hard to see the smaller blessings, the details God puts in my life for me to see Him more, to trust Him with everything (even the nuggets in my meal!). I guess this whole book is a summation of faith like a child! If only we, adults, could regrasp what this means. Maybe a book like this can get us back to faith that fully rests on God Himself and His daily, little blessings.
You can get this book here.

Your First Picture
I decided to give you a snap shot into our lives. Just because this picture is so darn cute and it shows how much Baby loved books. She kept trying to pick them up too many at a time and losing them. But how cute!

By Theo. LeSieg
This week I ordered the last of the Dr. Seuss books that our library has. I realized we aren't going to get through all of them by going to the library. There's quite a few they don't carry and I'm not sure where to find them.
But I did a little extra digging...
Theo. LeSieg is Dr Seuss.
There a number of books written by this guy.
Apparently Theo. LeSieg and Dr. Seuss live parallel lives within Theodor Geisel. Dr. Seuss writes and illustrates his own books. But sometimes, when Dr. Seuss doesn't want to illustrate what he writes he enlists the help of Theo LeSieg who writes and hires someone else to illustrate. By the way, LeSieg is Geisel spelled backwards.
So if you come to a shortage of Dr. Seuss books remember Theo LeSieg is Dr. Seuss, just another part of him.
But we're still going to be a little short. I'm going to have to do some digging to find the rest. Sadly I've realized we may never get them all. But here's to hoping!!

My Favorite Book- The Nothing Zoo
A few weeks ago we finished decorating Baby's room. We put up shelves and all I had on them was a few of my old monkeys and a special jewelry box from her Grandparents. I saw a picture on Pinterest that I thought would be so cute for Baby's room since we love books around here. The person had put books on the shelves facing out. I thought since I had put my old monkeys on there that it would be fun to hold the theme of our favorite things from when we were little. I pulled our old books off the bookcase (on the top shelf since they are quite old and I didn't want Baby trying to pull them apart). My husbands favorite book, "Green Eggs and Ham", is well read and has a special place on the shelf. I had trouble finding my favorite book. I knew we had it but I couldn't find it. After taking all her books down and sorting through them I found it.
The Nothing Zoo.
I remember reading this book ALL THE TIME. It is also well read. I think if I opened just one more time it would fall apart. That's how much I loved this book. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw my inspirational picture on Pinterest. I really think I could recite that book for your still, or at least draw the pictures.
People have asked me before what my favorite book is. I could never answer because I love all books, even bad ones. But now I have an answer. And it's not so weird that my favorite is a children's book since I have a baby girl who loves to read!

Our First Non-Seuss Seuss Books
Today I ran to the library to pick up Baby's newest Dr Seuss books they had on hold for us. Usually we go every Tuesday morning and hang out with friends for about an hour. But the non-sleeping Baby decided to take a good nap this morning. And I wasn't about to argue!
For her afternoon nap (might I add nonexistent afternoon nap) we read two of them: Gerald McBoing Boing and All Aboard The Circus McGurkus.
Although both these books are Dr. Seuss books they aren't technically written by him. They were both based on and inspired by one of his books. Or in the case of Gerald McBoing Boing, a movie Dr. Seuss came up with.
So neither of these books are considered to be one of Dr. Seuss's main, original books. But they're still cute and worth a read.

List of Dr Seuss Books
I had mentioned earlier that I wanted to read all of Dr. Seuss's books. We've been doing pretty well. We've gotten some from the library and Baby got a few for Valentine's Day. And some day I would like Baby to have all his books.
I searched for a complete list of Dr. Seuss's books and had a hard time finding one. I found a few that were missing pieces so I put them together into this long list!! Dr. Seuss himself wrote and illustrated most of his books but there are a few that someone else either illustrated of co-wrote with him. There are also some that were published after his death in 1991 that were written from various sketches and notes that he had left behind.

A Dr Seuss Kind of Thing
I realized the other day that I have never read all of Dr Seuss's books.
Every time we go to the pediatricians office we get the Dr Seuss room. It has a border of all his books. I like that room. Probably better than the baby. She'll appreciate it one day. : )
I have set a goal for us and have started already. There are 44 of his books. We have a few of them already and have read them a lot. Green Eggs and Ham is a favorite. I want to read all of them.
I wrote down the ones we haven't read yet. I'm not sure how many there are on our list to be honest. But I already have a few on hold at the library. Some are hard to track down!
I'll keep you posted on our progress.
Here are a few we got last week at the library.
